I see the bad moon arisin'
I see trouble on the way
I see earthquakes and lightnin'
I see bad times today
Don't go around tonight
Well, it's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise
I hear hurricanes ablowin'
I know the end is comin' soon
I fear rivers overflowin'
I hear the voice of rage and ruin
Don't go around tonight
Well, it's bound to take your life)
There's a bad moon on the rise
Alright
Hope you got your things together
Hope you are quite prepared to die
Looks like we're in for nasty weather
One eye is taken for an eye
Well, don't go around tonight
Well, it's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise
Don't go around tonight
Well, it's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise
I absolutely can't believe how true that song is for this last week in August! Of course, when John Fogerty written the lyrics to that song in 1969, he was more than likely referencing the current events of the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, the entire East Coast of the United States will be battling a much different war with another type of enemy, Hurricane Irene.
Early this week, the entire East Coast from Georgia to Toronto, Ontario, Canada felt the earth shaking beneath them as a 5.9 Earthquake occurred in the small town of Mineral, Virginia.

I have already spoke with

who lives in the region of the epicenter of the earthquake, and she said that she and her family and pets are fine. The only thing she lost was a few Disney Snowglobes. I have also noted

and have not yet heard from him, so I pray that everything is ok with him and his family.

Although, I heard some reports of a couple of houses collapsing in the Town of Mineral, I don't know of any deaths or fatalities that had occurred.

As everyone was getting their last week of

Summer Fun

all up and down the East Coast, all the weather forecasters were keeping their eye on another visitor to our region who was pounding Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. As of early Friday, Hurricane Irene already made land fall in Nags Head, North Carolina, and was downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane. According to WorldNews ABC, Hurricane Irene was blamed on 4 deaths in the States of Virginia and North Carolina. It was further downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane, and is expected to hug the coasts of the shorelines from Virginia all the way north to New Brunswick, Canada.

Everyone in the State of Delaware, and so far the coastal counties of New Jersey have all been ordered to evacuate. Even people in New York City have been ordered to evacuate! Me parents and a couple of me coworkers who have properties down the shore were all down there the day before boarding up windows and removing anything that might become a missile. Even the Ducky was Saturday, the day of the storm, up on me roof, applying rubber cement to flashings around chimneys and to some shingles.
As of right when I am typing this journal, tis heavy rains at times with no wind, but the eye of the storm is still miles south of here. They are expecting 100 mph + wind gusts tonight especially on the shore, so lots of storm surge flooding is expected, not to mention any wind damage to trees, structures, roofs, and even city and state infrastructure. Power might be out for days and roads might be impassable.

One thing for sure, this Ducky will NOT be sleeping tonight. I will be up all night through the worst the storm. Although there's nothing I can do about our visitor, Irene, I want to be prepared for anything that she might throw at us.
I pray for everyone's safety through the storm, including the Emergency Responders, such as Police, Fire, and Ambulance, and that all property damage remains to a minimum.
